Well,

I scheduled my Road test for 11:45a tomorrow at Century, and Thunder points out tonight that I have a screw in my front tire....sure enough I am down 12psi. Anyone know what time performance opens off hand? And if they stock any decent front tires? Grrrrr

Well I couldn't wait for performance to open this morning, so I called up Discount Tire, and they said they'd look at it. I brought it down, the guy fiddled with it a second and pop...it came out. Thank god, it was only a 1/4" screw that had only penetrated just into the initial tread...so I'm all good to go. The tire being down PSI is not related to that he said.

Yay I'm relieved.

Have you tried to run some water over it to make sure it isn't leaking. Or I would at least mark the inside of the tread near the hole so you can monitor it. Too much force on the tires to take a chance.

I remember my first R6 had 12 miles on it from the way home. F'ing nail in the rear tire all the way through. Had to buy a new one with only 12 on the original. What luck. Had 200 miles when there was a screw all the way through my R1 tire too. THat was last year.

The guy at Discount put some spray goop crap...green stuff on it. It's supposed to bubble out if it's leaking...we left it for about 5 mins with nothing. I'll take your advice and mark it off and keep an eye on it. I put in some air (running at like 40psi front). It's held up fine for the last couple hours.

Thanks

If it didn't go into far your tire should be good. Unless your going to do some excessive speeds. The z rated tires are 0 degree belted. That means it won't expand like a dragsters tire. So the hole shouldn't get any bigger. Just check your pressure often.

Some riders are going to Nitrogen in the tires, it holds better pressure longer. There has been debates but racers use it. Isn't as volitule (sp?) with fluctuation of temp.

I've seen a lot of stuff on that in the last year. One good thing is the tire pressure stays pretty constant. Doesn't really matter if its hot or cold out.

A friend of mine who manages a Belle Tire in Ohio said that it has to do with the larger molecule of the Nitrogen. less leaks around the seal. And Temp is the biggest thing about them for racers. Less expansion and better tire wear too.

I've still got the screw, if i push it to the edge of the tread it just barely touches rubber, so even had it gone in all the way I think it would be good...it was only about 3/4 into the tire. I passed my Endorsement test with 0 faults. I just checked the pressure after having it out and it's exactly the same as when I filled it.

See you dont get it Hott1... Its lighter and it doubles as a propellant!!!! I've got it all under control! 8)
